EMS Field Training & Evaluation Program
Give every new hire a structured, consistent start from day one — so nothing falls through the cracks.
Strong field training programs reduce turnover and build loyalty — providers stay where they feel supported.
Elevate your agency's standard of care through better-trained providers and a culture of continuous improvement.
The National EMS Management Association (NEMSMA) Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) is the premier structured framework for developing EMS field training officers and standardizing the evaluation of new providers entering the field.
Built on evidence-based adult learning principles and aligned with national EMS leadership standards, FTEP equips your agency with the tools, processes, and language to run a defensible, consistent, and effective field training program — from Day 1 on the ambulance through independent provider status.
This program is being brought to the Pittsburgh region for the first time, in partnership with NEMSMA and with financial support from the Allegheny County EMS Council.
Structured daily observation reports and competency benchmarks eliminate subjectivity and create legally defensible records of trainee progress.
Equips Field Training Officers with the skills, tools, and methodology to evaluate and develop new providers effectively and consistently.
Measurable, objective performance metrics tied to clinical outcomes and agency-specific expectations.
Developed and maintained by the National EMS Management Association — the leading organization for EMS executive and operational leadership.
The program is divided into two distinct tracks. Attend one or both — or register for the full five-day experience.
Designed for Field Training Officers. Covers the fundamentals of structured field training, evaluation methodology, documentation standards, and trainee performance management using the NEMSMA FTEP framework.
Designed for supervisors, lieutenants, and leadership. Focuses on building, managing, and sustaining an agency-wide FTEP program — including program oversight, FTO development, and continuous quality improvement.
Allegheny County EMS agencies receive a subsidized rate made possible through a grant from the Allegheny County EMS Council. Rates are per person, per course.
